Clare, a subsidiary of IXYS Corporation, announced Thursday the availability of its new CPC5712 “phone line monitor with detectors” (PLMD) integrated circuit, designed for use in high-voltage telephony applications like IP PBXs and VoIP
gateways. It is available now in a small QSOP 16-lead package, in sample and product quantities.
The new product monitors the RIP/RING input using a high-impedence divider (resistor isolation), Clare explained in its announcement. This process derives two programmable signal-level detects: polarity information and buffered phone line signal. Because of this resistor divider functionality, the device is practically undetectable for on- and off-hook phone line applications.
Clare also designed the product to require minimal external components, and the circuit meets isolation requirements specified by international telephony standards.
So what might the CPC5712 actually be used for, in a practical sense? The company said there are two main types of applications: standalone phone line monitoring, or as part of a voice or data line interface solution when combined with Clare’s LITELINK Phone Line Interface IC/DAA.
“By leveraging Clare's core telephony competency and LITELINK silicon DAA technology, the CPC5712 delivers a superior solution to designers of telephone network interfaces,” said Mark Heisig, General Manager and Vice-President of Clare, in a statement.
Clare is headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts. The company designs, manufactures a variety of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for the telecom market. In addition to solid state products and display driver solutions, Clare’s telecom/datacom integrated circuits are divided into two families, data access arrangements and line card access switches.
The company was acquired in 2002 by IXYS Corp, a power semiconductor manufacturers. Products from Clare are available through the company’s worldwide network of distributors. More information can be found on the Web at www.clare.com.
