DSP Group, Lantiq Speed Availability of Converged Communications

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

The DSP Group and Lantiq have reported the success of their joint interoperability tests on the new CAT-iq 2.0 "Cordless Advanced Technology: Internet and Quality" specification.

Both companies have significant experience developing and marketing software and silicon solutions that provide such services as multi-line control for IP telephony and gateway products like xPON, cable, office PBX (News - Alert) and xDSL.

CAT-iq 2.0, which has recently gained acceptance as an industry standard, aims to enable the wider use of IP-based infotainment applications and state-of-the-art communications within homes, with an eye towards the development of fully interoperable home gateways, cordless handsets and access points.

Covered during the joint testing were such key details as interoperability between residential gateways and cordless handsets. The tests revealed that the new specification was able to provide users with an excellent and seamless experience when tested on a wide range of telephony functions, such as multi-line support and synchronized call lists.

Brian Robertson, president of DSP Group (News - Alert), said that industry cooperation was crucial in order for the CAT-iq standard to succeed. The company, he added, was pleased to collaborate with like-minded companies in order to bring about third-party interoperability. He also reiterated DSP Group's full commitment to continuous innovation in order to make their vision of offering consumers more flexibility and choices a reality.

In addition, Ulrich Huewels, senior vice president and general manager of Business Unit CPE of Lantiq, agreed that interoperability was the keystone of the success of CAT-iq 2.0.

With CAT-iq, Lantiq, Huewels said, continues to follow the path it has taken in the past, as Lantiq's background in interoperability testing through voice and DSL carrier engagements is quite extensive, and the company continues to work to bring about future success for the new standard. Lantiq has concretely committed to push the technology by making CAT-iq part and parcel of its Ethernet-based and residential xDSL gateway devices.
