By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor
C2C's unique VoIP capabilities in the social networking space emerged in the form of the FriendCaller.com Web site, which was launched in February 2009. In a little over a year since start up, the service has reached the one million mark, giving ample testimony to its popularity.
The service allows users to make a free call by clicking a link sent via e-mail, IM, social networks, blog or Web sites, and offers a true alternative to installed VoIP services such as Skype (News - Alert).
Since June 2010, more than half a million new users were beginning to use the service, ensuring in the process that FriendCaller retained its ranking in the top 25 social networking apps on iTunes.
This is the first browser-based Internet phone solution that can convert any Internet-ready device, such as iPod touch or iPod, into a phone without having to go through the process of registration, download or exchange user IDs.
FriendCaller (News - Alert) can be used to connect not only to other FriendCaller users, but also anyone on the Internet, who clicks on the Callme links, regardless of whether it is a FriendCaller user or not. These links can be forwarded to anyone through e-mails, through social medial profiles and blogs or instant messaging. By merely clicking on the unique link, the caller and the recipient are connected through the Web browser.
Friends and family can connect with FriendCaller for free, or for only 2 cents per minute via land lines and cell phones from the United States. to over 35 countries, and unlike other VoIP services, FriendCaller does not require recipients to sign up to make a call. Truly, a hassle free service available just a click away.
Earlier this month, the company announced that it had raised $2 million in Series A funding from a group of venture capitalists that includes one of Skype's original backers.
Summing up, Martin Feuerhahn, founder and CEO of C2Call (News - Alert), said that FriendCaller's numbers spoke for themselves: From the 1 million user mark to the 15,000 new users a day, to its ranking in the top 25 free social networking apps in the iTunes store, FriendCaller was winning over everyone who wanted a straightforward, effortless VoIP solution.
C2Call is the first company to offer free Internet phone calls to anyone, without the need to download software or register. C2Call was founded in 2008 by Feuerhahn and CTO Michael Knecht, founders of Actai Networks, the mobile Internet solutions development company. C2Call is a venture-backed company that has generated more than $2 million in revenue since April 2010.
In a related news release, C2Call GmbH, has received start up venture capital from High-Tech Gründerfonds and angel investors Michael Brehm – former executive director of StudiVZ – and Tapesh Sinha – founder of Acctel Group. This investment will fund the internationalization of the world’s first Java browser-based VoIP suite and the popular FriendCaller iPhone (News - Alert) apps.
