IP Telephony Feature: Fonality Talks Cloud Communications, Sangoma Partnership
By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor
I recently caught up with Aron Aicard, senior director of Product at Fonality (News - Alert), a provider of business phone system solutions and unified communications.
Headquartered in Los Angeles and founded in 2004, Fonality officials say it is “the only company that offers an affordable, feature-rich cloud communications solution with an optional premise redundancy module.”
To find out more about their solution and their partnership with Sangoma, I asked Aicard some questions on the topic.
Our exchange follows:
SV: Fonality phone systems offer the features and functionality people typically see in premise-based systems, but you offer them in the cloud and provide an optional premise module. Can you talk a little about this architecture and why a solution such as this is so important for businesses to have today?
AA: In order to address the mobility needs of small businesses, Fonality has stepped up with an affordable, reliable solution. Every phone system we sell is connected to the cloud. Cloud-based telephony is tomorrow's solution, period. Our solutions are feature-rich, managed from the cloud, backed up in the cloud, monitored in the cloud, and maintained in the cloud. Additionally, we provide optional equipment, including Sangoma cards, that we place on the customer premise to address three primary needs: telco connectivity or, keeping your existing analog or digital phone lines, privacy –storage for voicemails, recorded calls, call logs, and so on, and redundancy- to make sure you can make calls, even if your Internet service goes down.
The flexibility afforded by this architecture also allows customers to choose how to pay, up front or monthly, how to account for spend - capital or operating expense, where data or the server resides, and what level of redundancy is required.
SV: Can you talk a little about your partnership with Sangoma, the history behind it and specifically what you offer as partners?
AA: When a business can’t effectively communicate with its clients, the business is on hold. Most mission critical communications are between an employee and someone external to the phone system. This is where Sangoma enters the picture. We trust Sangoma with one key task: connect reliably to the phone company. Sangoma delivers. They offer the best product quality, lifetime warranties, first class support, global distribution, and reputation. Thousands of our customers rely on them every day to run their business.
SV: Last month, Fonality announced a significant milestone by serving its one billionth cloud call. Can you talk a bit more about the significance of this achievement and how customers are realizing the advantages of cloud communications through Fonality?
AA: Our billionth call milestone is simply one of the ways we demonstrate that flexible cloud-based telephony is real, it's proven, and it's time to make the switch. Premise-only systems “PBXs” are dying and cloud-only systems “hosted” are tapering off at an unimpressive market share ceiling. Flexible cloud-based solutions are what it's about. We created it, we are the leader in it, and we mean to change the telephony landscape forever because of it.
